Default Help- Suspension System

I have just moved to Austin, TX and own have a 1984 Mercedes 500 SEL which in need of a suspension replacement, brake replacement and a reseal of the power steering box. I have a technical background (electronics) and replaced mechanical assemblies in the past including brakes. However, I have never replaced a suspension system or removed/resealed a power steering box. I was advised to replace the following:

Ball Joints
Tie Rods
Support
Guide Rod Kit
Rotors/Pads
Power Steering Box Kit

I have the following question?

1. Are there any pictures/diagrams to illustrate the replacement process online?
2. Mechanics in this Forum who could be of technical assistance by phone/email?
3. Any local mechanics in the Austin, TX area who can advise me?
4. A Mercedes 500 SEL repair manual?
5. Tools needed to perform the replacement/repairs?
6. Where can I get an alignment after replacement is complete?

Thank you, Forum Members

Default RE: Help- Suspension System

All of the items you described are common on this vintage and model of vehicle. There are many tools you will need that are fairly expensive not to mention an alignment when you are done. Unless you are feeling overzealous i would pay to have someone do the repairs. Especially the steering box.
