Default help please , this car is driving me crazy on the one year anniversary ( of buying date)

hey guys,
i got this 1989 2.6 liter 190E MB.. this car is drving me crazy later well 3 weeks ago i had a alternator ( charging) problem which thanks god and with your help guys i resolved it yesterday.. after i took the car crusing around and all in a sudden the temp gauge in traffic kicked at red zone 120*C.. i was like what te hell.. the car was overheating, i shut it off i tok the radiator cap off and coolant kept coming out of it very very hot..after then i put some coolant in so i could refill it and samething after from 100*C it kicked at 120*C maximum temp.. i brought the car home and i noticed even though on highway the temp arrow wouldnt go under 110*C( which before then this stuff happened use to stay at 80*C).. i went today and bought a thermostat to replace it ( 192*F) , cause i thought it would be the thermostat but no it didnt seem like it was the problem cause even after the thermostat was replaced the car is doing the same symptoms as yesterday.. also air bubbles and high hot pressure coolant coming from the coolant reservoir while the cap is not on.. what do you guys think it could be a radiator or a water pump.. the radiator though seems new cause the aluminum around it it shows shiny spot..

Hi Benz 190E,

I have the exact same car as you, along with a clk and an sec. They're like my kids.
Lets team up on these 190s; We can help each other from time to time.

In 350k miles I have had three heat problems I can share:

1) When the thermostadt went bad: I removed it, and what happens to them is the little stainless shaft that the plate slides on, eventually gets a notch worn into it that causes the plate to jam.
Quick fix; I replaced it with a new MB thermostadt.

2) The temp, over a period of years began to climb gradually as the result of the impeller fins on the water pump becoming eroded. It also leaked a bit from the weep hole. But this was a gradual effect, not sudden.

3) Once the car began to run VERY hot suddenly. I finally found the problem to be a tear in the rubber intake cover, below the air flow sensor. Part No. 103 141 00 90 It could be any air intake leak as well.

Make sure you didn't accidentally pull any vaccum hoses loose when you were working on the car.

Hey Charles,

how you doing.. well this thing is driving me insane man.. i dont see any leaks under the car, and fans are working properly, you let the car cool down to its limit and after 5 minutes you start it up and bum righ there the car is redicilously hot.. even though after replacing the thermostat, so what could it be now? a radiator or a water pump.. ? if one of them are they diffiicult to replace??? let me know

thanks

Did it just start overheating today? because the radiator and the fuel pump usually have a slow gradual death, in my experience.

Oh, did you bleed the air out of the system after changing the themostadt? There is a bleed screw on top of the thermostadt cap/housing.

Also there has been a problem with an aftermarket radiator hose that sucks closed at certain RPM and blocks coolant flow.

I hope its not related to the altenator. I was reading that if the specs are off by 1%, the car is not going to work properly.

I'm still thinking vacuum hose came loose somewhere.

Find the bleed screw on top of the thermostadt housing.
start car and allow it to idle until warm.
slightly loosen screw, air should come out, then coolant should trickle out.
(do NOT completely remove screw.)
when coolant begins to run out, re-tighten screw.

If coolant never comes out, have someone hold the throttle at about 1500 rpm and try again.
And of course, do not allow it to run hot, you may have another problem.

Did you check that boot under the air flow sensor?

hey charles,

it seems like i fixed the problem man, i think the radiator was cloged.. now the car doesnt overheat like it did that day .. well still though when i stop in traffic the temp goes up to 110*C ( but would that be because the temp outside here in massachusetts is like mid 90*F..?? and also i noticed that my 2 aux fans dont work at all.. what could that be causing them to not wirk ?? what should i check for ?? any fuses ?( if so where they located??
thanks

heloo... it either your fan not coming on due to faulty sensor or an air block in the coolant system
