HELP !!! 97 E420...ASR ACC.SKID CONTROL
I have a97 E420, Awesome car. However hear lately when I am at a stop sign or idle somewhere (drive thru), S/S etc...my car feels like it drops into a low gear, jerks forward, does not accelerate past 5 mph and the dash board lights up like a x-mas tree. Iget a message...ASR ACC SKID CONTROL...I turn the car off and it goes away and drives normal...then it starts over at the next stop light...I searched the forums for similarinstances but no one apparentlyhas the same issue.
Thanks
Thanks
I went to Auto Zone and they did a Diagnostic and they told me it was coil for cylinder 1 and 5 and the IAC (Idle Air Control) was bad and the Throttle Valve was stuck mechanically. Does this sound correct to anyone ?
Hi,
Quote: lights up like a x-mas tree. Do you get the oil, battery, check engine, etc lights on or just those pertaining to EPS. ASR. BAS, ABS.
Road surface when this occurs. Icy or good dry tarmac?
i.e. Are we talking a general power outage which causes the whole car to reboot or just a "braking" system fault. Your description seems to infer a general power outage. If so start by checking if the battery terminals are good and secure.
WRT the faults highlighted by Autozone it is possible that you do have these problems but I'm suspicious. If you have these issues with the engine controls I would expect you to be concerned re performance, gas consumption, smoothness etc whilst driving rather than just stopping. Does the car idle normally?
Go back to Autozone. Re scan the car. Codes present? If so what are the codes (Number rather than definition please). Clear them. Go for a drive and re scan. What now.
Post the answer to these questions + the codes from Autozone. (suggest you observe the readout yourself if it is not a hard copy) and we can go from there.

Update: Went to Autozone scanned car got codes P0115 & P0100. Cleared codes, drove around for 10 mins, came back same codes present.
P0115: ECT (Engine Coolant Temp)
Resolution1: Check wiring & connector
Resolution2: Sensor open or shorted-replace sensor
P0100: MAP/BARO or MAF sensor condition
Resolution1: Vac hose off, cracked or passage blocked-Engine mechanical timing condition.
Resolution2:Throttle body intake tube loose, off, or cracked.
Resolution3: BARO/MAP defective
Resolution4: VAF (Vane Air Flow) MAF sensor dirty or defective.
Will start with the ECT and then go from there, may have to get part from dealership?
Will update with progress.

P0300, P0301, P0305, P0507, P1580....Gas consumption is slightly higher also...I reset the dashbord drove around and put it in nuetral and it still does the same thing...surface is concrete, does it rain, dry conditions, cold etc...and only the ASR, ACC Skid Control, Check engine light come on....I hope this helps Stuart.
Any Luck Ricco ?

Well I finally fixed my E420.
1. Replaced ECT sensor $25 PN #011-542-51-17-M85
2. Replaced thermostat $30 PN #119-200-00-15-M2
3. Replaced Air Mass Sensor $375 PN #000-094-07-48-M14
Oh I also changed the coolant as a preventative maintenance.
Took a while, since I had to research endlessly & patiently about my MB's blueprint
I hope this info helps someone who might have these same issues in the present or
future.
My Benzo runs better than it ever did.
I feel so
I am having the same issues, when I come to stop light, car shuts off after Acc. skid control and ABS lights come on. then restart it and it revs on its own, bucks and sometimes shuts off again. Intermittent problem.
Mechanic cleaned the throttle body, replaced the fan clutch and thermostat, tot he tune of nearly $800 and it's still doing it.
silly me, not a mechanic, but i thought it was braking or transmission issue not cooling. any thoughts here?
