Fan clutch removal
HI all,
I've got a 97 E420 that I can't figure out how to get the fan clutch off. The clutch has a very large nut to back off but I cannot hold the pully to loosen it. I've seen a long tool on the web but cannot find where it would be used. There is only one hole to poke it in but it runs parallel with the shaft. I've put a firm piece of wire in the hole but can't feel any detent when I spin the pully. It seems that the any holding device would have to be perpendicular to the rotating piece being held.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

RE: Fan clutch removal
Well I figured it out. MBZ has a special tool that holds the front of the pulley...$150
Instead I used an air hammer/chisel right on the edge of the 36mm nut. Took about five seconds...Installation was reverse of removal.
