Default External Air Temperature

I have a strange fault on my C220 CDi (year 2000, W202) concerning the digital display of the outside air temperature. When I start up at the beginning of the day the display reads something crazy like -C0.E , after 30 minutes of running it reads the correct external temperature (in degrees Centigrade) and it stays good all day or until I switch off for more than a few minutes.
I changed the sensor in the front fender with no effect. If I remove the sensor when the display is good, it reads -38.0 C which may be its lower limit ?? If I remove the sensor when the display is crazy, nothing changes.
Help !!
