Hi,
Two motors Up/Down and In/Out. Problem with both or just the one? If both your problem doesn't appear IMHO plausible.
If one motor operates OK and the other runs but does not give the required movement either
a. the motor has become loose and the gearwheel is not engaging (unlikely but possible).
b. The motor gear wheel teeth are stripped or gear loose (unlikely)
c. The steer column assembly rack teeth have stripped (very unlikely).
Not sure if you can get motor separate from the column.
Strange failure. Are you sure both motors are running?
Note:
Access is difficult / restricted.
Removal is time consuming.and tricky although relatively straight forward if you are a skilled DIY'er.
A dealer is likely to charge an arm and a leg if they replace the column. Parts and labour.
Good Luck,
Stuart

theres a small plastic shaft that connects the motor to the gears-they have splines on the inside its basically a miniature driveshaft-i have had acouple of these brake in half mostly on E-class 211 chassis-im a certified mercedes technician and they are horrible to replace-if you can pull your drivers underdash panel down or steering column trim panels and look inside youll probably find a bunch of small white shavings and if you can see that then theres your problem-hopei have helped out
