Default E320 Heating/ventilation problem

Hello everyone

I've just bought an E320 CDi 2001 - fantastic performance!!

I have noticed that the bottom button on the Heating/Ventilation buttons does not seem to work. It has 2 lights on it and appears to be for "Recirculation" and also has "Rest" on it. None of the lights work and nothing seems to happen when the button is pressed. the other 2 buttons work fine, as does the air con and other heating controls.

Does anyone have idea how to test/fix this? Is there a fuse I could check? I would very much appreciate your help with this.

Thank You in advance...JB

The REST button turns the heater ON when the ignition is OFF and will pump hot air assuming that the engine remains warm.
i.e. You don't have to have the engine running. It uses a small electric pump.
If the heater works normally I can't think why this button doesn't work.
Did you press the button after turning OFF the engine?
If this was a misunderstanding then maybe you are also unfamiliar with how the Recirc button works?

I have tried pressing the button, both with the engine running and also when no key in the ignition.

It just appears that the bottom button does not work. No recirculating of the air takes place. Is there a way to test whether this is a faulty button or something else?

Thank You

Hi,
So your heater AND A/C work normally but if you press the "dual function button" you do not get Recirc. One of the lights should illuminate and you should hear a flap move and the blower note change as Recirc becomes operative.
With the ignition OFF this same button changes to REST functionality and turns the heater ON with the engine turned off. The "other" warning light in the switch illuminates. If there is hot water in the engine you should get hot air off the heater.

Now I understand your problem I will look at the wiring diagram and advise the cause.
I'll be surprised if there is a separately fused supply to the Recirc button but lets see what turns up.

Did this functionality work correctly and then stop working or has it been inop for the entire period that you have owned the car?
Vehicle mileage/location?

Thanks for trying to help.

I've just bought the car privately, and the button has never worked.

I think it is just the button that's not working, as nothing happens when you press it: Both when the engine is running and parked up.

I don't know whether you can buy a new button, or if it is part of a unit. I would firstly like to test it, if possible. Hopefully it may even be just a fuse?

Once again. Thanks for the help....JB
