Default E320 CDI glow plugs

i have been told by my mechanic that if a glow plug breaks while removing it I will need a new engine?? Does anyone know if this is really true. Also why is glow plug replacement not part of regular maintenance??Thank you!!!

no, you don't need a new engine, however you need a special tool to get it out from mbz. GPs goes bad in new diesels (CDIs) around 50k miles +/- depends the climate of your area.
