New Mercedes owner here. Have a 1998 E430. Runs great, but have had recent problems with intermittent warm/hot starting. Once it starts, it runs fine. No cranking problems. Have read a few others' problems which suggest a crank position sensor malfunction. Is that a possibility or would you suggest something else? On a related note, can anyone suggest a manual to do such repairs?

Check fuel pump relay. Replace if found bad.

 

Yea, I've had that same problem, my crank doesn't work now and then either. Yes, the relay for the fuel pump is the probably the culprit. or it could be the pickup filter sleeve, in the tank, sometimes these get clogged and you get the same condition.
