Battery Went dead... Now won't start!!!
2001 SL500, Battery went dead and now the car won't start. The radio says "WAIT" and all electrical components function... I can't hear the starter click at all. I'm hoping it has to do with the anti-theft system, any help is greatly appriciated... I have the car in the garage and I can't move it out to even have it towed to a dealer.
Please post any ideas... I'l ltry them all!!!

RE: Battery Went dead... Now won't start!!!
Hi,
So you need to fit a new battery!
If you need to get the car towed etc you basically need to restore power in order to get the car into Neutral so that you can push the car out of a confined space.
To do this you have to apply (sufficient) power to operate the transmission shift interlock. This can be done by using jump leads to the battery or if this is not practical it can be achieved via the cigar lighter. You must not try to start the car with power applied via the cigar lighter!
Alternatively you can use the "Emergency" mechanical transmission interlock over ride.
Once you have access to the car all should be straight forward.
Hope this helps. Ask if you need more detail.

If you are sure you need a new MB battery, it is cheaper to call the MB 800 road service so they come out and replace the battery for you.
It is also the easiest approach in your case. You do not have to worry about taking the car out of the garage and deal with towing the car to dealer.

One more thing. If you think that the battery may have some kife left, I would disconnect the battery and use a battery charger to slow charge it and see if it will hold the charge. That is if you want to go through the hassle. Please read the instructions on how to safely charge a battery.
Now if the battery goes dead again (provided you do not have a short), then call the MB 800 road service and ask for a battery replacement.
Good luck.
