RE: ASR ??? WHY??? 92 500SL BIG PROBLEM
Hi,
Glad you are happy with the info you have received from other members. However, I still believe that the problem is most likely trivial although there is a SMALL chance the ECU could have gone bad since there is not a fault at start. This confirms that all inputs to the ECU are as required. Maybe this is why somebody is selling a kit to respond to the problem! The ASR uses data from other systems which you infer are working 100% namely EA Electronic Accelerator, ABS and EMS. Please try a 5 second check before abandoning the system. "Normalise" the steering angle sensor. Full lock to full lock, ignition on whilst stationary. |

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking me to do. Please explain more if you can.
Thanks for the help and I hate being so uneducated about what you are talking about. David |

"Normalise" the steering angle sensor. Full lock to full lock, ignition on whilst stationary.
Just start the engine and turn the steering full lock to full lock (a couple of times for good measure) whilst stationary. This resets the steering position sensor which plays an important part in ASR/ESP since it determines the position of the steering wheel relative to the direction that the vehicle is travelling as derived from the onboard accelerometer sensors. Since your car is a 95 I'm not sure exactly what level of control is supplied by your ASR. May not solve the problem but its worth a try especially if you have recently had a flat battery or had it replaced. |
