Default ASR warning light HELP!

Hey guys I am new to Mercedes... and the triangle with the exclemation point is flasshing on my dash. (the "asr" light?)
This only usually happens when I first start out driving.... then if I flip the switchthe lightstays on solid, then if I hold it down it goes out.
Is there some sortof wheel sensor that should be replaced? It happens on dry pavementand it cuts off all the power to the wheels untill I just roll for a while... then it lets me have pick-up again.
Thanks guys I hope it is something obvious!

Default RE: ASR warning light HELP!

Hi.
When the yellow triangle light is ON the ASR is working (i.e. It reduces engine power to the road wheel which is "about to slip" as a SAFETY aid) OR the system is turned off and the safety feature is no longer available.

This is why the dash switch puts the light on constant = System turned off. Safety feature not available.

With the system turned on the ASR light should only come on if the limit of adhesion (or stability YAW in the case of ESP) is reached.

A full power (particularly from a junction with some steeringangle) start will likely get the light to come on and power will be reduced to the affected wheel(S) until tyres are no longer slipping.

Under "normal" driving the light should NOT come on.

Please define your problem in more detail since i am not sure whether you are describing normal operation or some fault.

Surprising how many people do not understand the purpose of ASR / ESP / ABS etc and therefore how these systems are supposed to work.

Do you have a handbook?

Stuart.
