Just got a 78 450SL with problems. It set outside for a few years. I have cleaned the gas tank put on new filters and pump flushed all the lines and cleaned the injectors. will start and run for a second and cut off. running very rich. at one point #4 and#8 cylinder filled with gas and engine would not turn over. What to do next. Any help appreciated.

 

I owned a 1975 450 SLC with the same problem. I remember that he changed an electronic module, but it was many years ago and I have no other information.

 

Thanks for the reply. Have educated myself a lot in the last month. I have a bad cold start valve and not enough fuel pressure to open injectors. Also need new fuel distributor pressure valve. I will get it going. Will just take money and time. Thanks again.

 

The theme is old, but can be useful the Mercedes Benz Service Manual V-8 Engines M 116 (3.5), M 117 (4.5).

Thanks for the info. I have that manual and it has helped with several problems. I just need to spend more time on it.
