Default 4 Matic shakes violently

Hello,
this is my first post on this forum.

My wife drives a 95 300TE 4 matic and we have been having problems with the front end for a long time. Nobody (dealer and local Mercedes mechanic, tire shop) has been able to figure out what is wrong.

Our tires never last more than 20K miles.
Tie rods have been replaced and are tight.
Boots on the front axles are gone, there is a little play in the axles. The mechanic says it's not so bad they we need to replace them.

Right now we have new tires, had the front end aligned and checked. Quite frequently the front end will shake as if one of the wheels (passenger front) is about to fall off. Then the ride will smooth out again and be smooth for a while. The shaking is so bad that we are afraid to drive the car.

Has anybody else experienced this problem? Does anybody have an idea what would cause this to happen?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

what's the tire's size? long shot, but it could be the engine mounts-probably cracked.

does it shake over a certain speed only. or is it random? And when it shakes does it vibrate from the floor, or is it shaking of the steering wheel?

the shaking appears to be coming from the passenger side front. feels like a ball is missing in the bearings, but the wheel is tight when it's lifted off the ground and I try to move it.
we are going ahead and removing the front axles. the boots have been torn for a while. Maybe once the axle is out we can find out what's going on.
we have been hesitant to spend the $1100 for rebuild axles from MBZ. my mechanic just found somebody that will rebuild my axles for less than $ 200.
thank you for trying to help. I will keep you posted what the problem is.
Peter
