Default 350 CLK Acceleration Issue

Please help! My '07 clk 350 convertible (103K miles), while driving at about 40mph, I hit the gas to accelerate and RPMs went to 60 but there was no actual acceleration:-( Check Engine light just came on yesterday so I was planning to take it to my mechanic in the morning. Now I am afraid to drive the 10 miles to the shop for fear that it just stall in the road on the way. Any ideas as to what type of issue I am looking at? I have already put approx. $3000 in this car for repairs since buying it in 2010:-( That figure does not include regular mileage service:-(

valve body or conductor plate. usually a speed sensor issue on the conductor plate.
