300sd will not start

I have a 1982 300sd that will not start. I know the starter works because I have jumped it from the positive of the battery to the solenoid on the starter. The battery is good. I have tried it in neutral but that does not work.
It does nothing but I do hear a relay under the hood.
Also the interior dash lights do not work.
Any help greatly appreciated
