Default 220 deisel W115 Oil Leak

Good morning Everybody, I have been trying to get my 1972 220D back into daily driver condition. I have a good deal of upgrades complete the last major problem i am facing is a large oil leak.

I have tried the standard procedures, cleaning the underneath of the car and waiting/watching for the leak.

the problem is i don't seem to have too bad of an oil leak if the engine is just idling, its only after i've been on the freeway for a while and then park that the oil starts to leak, almost exclusively from the front end of the car. I have looked under the car after these drives to try and see where the oil is coming from but by that point the oil has been blown all over everything and I haven't been able to track it down.

although i don't think the oil pan gasket is the issue i have replaced it but im not sure where to go next. I did notice what almost looked like a spray pattern vs drops of oil on the front passenger side of the car.

if anyone has a suggestion for what to look into next id appreciate it.

also there is always oil in the intake manifold, I believe this is blow by, and if i understand correctly the only way to take care of that would be to replace the piston rings. correct?
