Default 2006 NAV System

After purchasing a new 2006 ML350 last week, I decided to call the parts department to see what a new Navigation system would cost, since per the salesman, mine didn't have one.The parts guylooked up my VIN number and told me the Navigation system is already installed in the vehicle and all I needed to do was buy the map CD's for about $450.00!! What a shock! Can this be true?

I don't know anything about the Navigation system. Don't I need some kind of installation DVD? Is there an aftermarket for the map CD's?

Any help on getting my NAV system up and running would be a huge help......as I'm already lost!!!!

IF YOU HAVE THE NAVI READER ALL READY INSTALLED (CHECK THE SALES STICKER AND LIST OF OPTIONS IT SHOULD BE LISTED THERE UNDER ACC.) IF IT DOES THEN THEY JIPPED YOU OUT OF A CD AND YOU SHOULD GO BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND GET YOUR CD THE PACKAGE IS SOLD AS A UNIT (THAT MEANS WORKING OR DONT HAVE IT) NOW THE CD IS A DUAL LAYER DVD ROM THAT HAS ALL THE MAPPING INFO ON IT ALL THE READER DOES IS CHECK YOU SAT. LOCATION AND CORRESPOND IT TO THE MAPS (LAT. /LONG. ) TO FIND OUT HOW TO GET THERE . YOU NEED THE DISC INORDER TO USE THIS FEATURE ( THING OF IT AS A CO-PILOT WITH NO MAPS TO DO HIS JOB !!!!

Thanks WestCoast! Unfortunately I don't have the list of accessories. Before I go to the dealer and demand my DVD, is there a way to tell if it is truly equipped with NAV? When I hit the eject button, there is a CD slot on the bottom end, but there is no DVD slot on the top, just a cover plate. Does this tell you anything?

Thanks!!

do you have the sticker that was on the window that is what tells you what the car is equipt with ???
if no look at all the cd readers in the car the navi reader should have stenciled (DVD) in white on the outside just under the slot where you load the disc. if it does you should have navi 80% sure . now if you just boughtyour car then youll getthat all important SURVEY !! so you got some barginning power talk with your salesman go down there one day meet him ask him to get a navi cd out a car and test in yours outside in the open if the navi screen pops up they owe you a disc !! pure and simple if not then you dont have navi. so i you paid for navi go to parts department give them your entire vin # (located lt front dash by the bottom lt corner of windsheild(ifyou were sitting in the car looking) the vin would start with either WDN OR 4JG########## .the parts guy should have a complete build list of features that your car came with and will be able to tell you if you have navi

Don't have the sticker! The only thing stenciled is "CD Audio". I think a trip to Laguna Niguel is next!

Thanks!
