Default 2002 S55 Cranking/Starting Problem

1.

I just bought a 2002 S55 AMG recently and believe it was recently repossessed before i purchased it. The gear shift was loose and the car was not starting. After further investigation, I raised the car up and noticed that the linkage was disconnected or maybe even broken off the shifter connection. I manually put the car in park on the transmission, but the car still will not turn on or show any sign of cranking. I am planning on buying a new linkage and reconnecting it. Do you have any idea of what could be possibly wrong??? Does is need reprogramming?

2.

The car is slighty lower on the front passenger side of the car? Does it also need reprogramming/calibration? If so, how is that done?

Thanks for reading!

The ignition switch interfaces with a module at the trans as a safety feature etc. If the trans shift mechanism is damaged this needs to be repaired / replaced before determining whether the Cranking problem is due to the damaged linkage or some other problem.

Re Airmatic. What is slightly lower? Car was on level ground? Hand/foot brake off? Driven slowly to a stop after engine has been running for several minute to allow Airmatic resevoir to adjust values etc?

Ride height can be checked, and adjusted (if necessary) in software BUT it needs SDS Star Diagnostics or similar top end equipment to reset the values. If only 10mm (1/2" for you guys in the USA) I wouldn't worry about it.

Usual problem with Airmatic is leakage but If you are checking the car as advised above I don't think this is impacting your readings.

First, if the linkage was disconnected...you probably have a bad ESM (Electronic Selector Module)...this needs programming. If you manual put the car in the park or neutral, and the car still won't start, check the ETC (Electronic Transmission Control) Module, and make sure there's no back pressure transmission fluid in there. If it is, then try to clean it with non-conductor cleaner, or another option is to buy new ETC module, but it's expensive and requires programming. Check whether it's airmatic or hydraulic???take care,-mar-

That's what I thought that S55 had hydraulic suspension. If it leans over overnight...it could be either defective ABC Sensor or Hydraulic shock (e.g. LF, RF, RR, and LR). Thanks Chassis221!! How are the 221's by the way? I went to school last year Dec. 06, and I haven't really seen much in the independent shop (LOL). I really like the new 204's though. I'm thinkingabout getting one...we'll see.

take care,
