I have A big problem on a 2002 mercedes S430 that I am working on for my friend.His wife drove to to work,everything was fine...She get's into the car after work,and it will not come out of park!She called the Dealer,and they said that there is not any by-pass for the shift interlock.I found this impossible,since every other time I have had this problem on other cars,there has always been a BY-PASS,so I look at car,owners manual,and talk to the dealers service dept(No BY-PASS)I use ALL-DATA software,so I call them,No information for interlock,And I did check the brake lights-working fine.HELP!! Does anyone know how to test or repair,or a wiring diagram,or a diagnosis chart how to test and repair? Please HELP ME!! thank's Jim

 

no bypass on S-Class. E-class and C-Class, yes.

the ESM is faulty. (electronic shift module). replace it.

however to bypass it so you can drive, remove the 4 screws that holds the ESM and remove the locking pin solenoid.

 

remove the shift **** and hit the shifter with a hammer (hard)while pulling it into gear or remove shifter cover and hit the right rear corner of the shifter with a hammer/punch. E and C class have a black lever when you remove the shift cover.

 

so what did they end up doing and how much did it cost to repair because I am having the same problem with the 02 S500
