2002 E320 will not shift gears
I just purchased a 2002 E320 with 94,000 miles. While driving it today the car would not shift into gears from 1s/2nd.. I ended up driving the car at 4000 -6000 RPMS to reach higher speeds but pretty much had to stay under 30 miles an hour to drive it because it would not shift into a higher gear at all.
There are no check engine lights, no blinking transmission/over drive lights coming up. When in park or idol the engine runs smoothly and without any jerks or RPM changes. I just left it at a Mechanic shop but he is not a Mercedeshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif but he is not a Mercedes expert and may not have all the tools to check it our properly. Please help? |
I was hoping to find some mechanics on this site who could offer some suggestions to the issue above?
any help will be greatly appreciated |
Trans problem
sounds like it needs a shift / conductor plate on top of the valve body in at transmission. check the ETC for codes with a factory type scaner that fits under the hood in the fuse box
|
thanks so much... I will keep you posted on what I find out
|
did you spill any fluids into the shifter area? MB tech is correct the shift plate/ conductor plate could be an issue also. those run about $300 at a Benz dealer and about 2-3 hours labor plus trans fluids cost and a trans filter which is recommended.
|
I did not, but maybe someone else did. If fluid was spilled into the shift area it would cause for the transmission not to shift from gear to gear?
My car is automatic and it acts normal when I put it into R, D, P, N etc.. just when I press the gas it does not shift into higher gears at all. |
fluids
what would the fluids do that was spilled

Spilled liquid on console - will not shift
Car was running fine, stopped to get some fries and poured vingar oin thgem. Vingar spilled into console and my dash went haywire. End result, can not shift. Was able to get it into drive and limp home, hopefully the drier gods sort this out by the AM... Yes there is a check engine light but of course I lent my checktool out to a friend and do not have it handy. Any ideas?

that happened to me and it cost me 2900.00

fluids will short out the shifting interlock module,,im an expert haha,,i had to buy one as i spilled wine down the consol,,,they should have put a cover on the shifting handle like the newer ones
|
you shorted out the shifting interlock module,,,it is under the shifting lever below the consol
|
either the transmission module is bad or a low voltage on the battery will cause the transmission not to shift,,,i wouldnt have thought this but it happened to me yesterday and i replaced the battery and now mine is shifting like a new one,,,knock on wood,,haha,,,,
|
Mine is a 2001 e320 sedan
|
A new battery would be a start,,been there done that,,,and is a lot cheeper than letting mb put a transmission module,,,or as mb said earlier,,a plate malfunction one of the three for shure ,,,start with a voltage check on the battery,,if a e320`s battery drops low,,it will cause the transmission module to hold first gear,,,,,i did it today,,it fixed mine,,boy am i glad,,,chow

2002 Mercedes c 230 wont shift into higher gears
|
I have a mint condition of E320 2002 4matic estate. 73,629 kilometers on going. It's look like new.
But i was surprised and wondering about this mercedes. One month ago, I just replaced the conductor plate and oil filter, changed the oil. But now the same problem coming again. I still have a problem with my 2001 E320 Estate. It runs fine for a few miles - all gears work- then loses all drive - as if it were in neutral but the light still says D. No other fAult lights come on. Same happens if the car is left idling and stationary for 25 minutes or so. Then, switch off ignition, wait a couple of minutes, restart and it's fine - changes through all the gears until another 5 miles or so, and no drive again. Star test shows P2502. Help! Is it electronic or a new torque converter and gearbox? |
