2002 E320 will not shift gears
I just purchased a 2002 E320 with 94,000 miles. While driving it today the car would not shift into gears from 1s/2nd.. I ended up driving the car at 4000 -6000 RPMS to reach higher speeds but pretty much had to stay under 30 miles an hour to drive it because it would not shift into a higher gear at all.
There are no check engine lights, no blinking transmission/over drive lights coming up. When in park or idol the engine runs smoothly and without any jerks or RPM changes.
I just left it at a Mechanic shop but he is not a Mercedes but he is not a Mercedes expert and may not have all the tools to check it our properly.
Please help?

did you spill any fluids into the shifter area? MB tech is correct the shift plate/ conductor plate could be an issue also. those run about $300 at a Benz dealer and about 2-3 hours labor plus trans fluids cost and a trans filter which is recommended.

I did not, but maybe someone else did. If fluid was spilled into the shift area it would cause for the transmission not to shift from gear to gear?
My car is automatic and it acts normal when I put it into R, D, P, N etc.. just when I press the gas it does not shift into higher gears at all.

Spilled liquid on console - will not shift
Car was running fine, stopped to get some fries and poured vingar oin thgem. Vingar spilled into console and my dash went haywire. End result, can not shift. Was able to get it into drive and limp home, hopefully the drier gods sort this out by the AM... Yes there is a check engine light but of course I lent my checktool out to a friend and do not have it handy. Any ideas?
