I have a 2000 e 55 with 65k and periodically it will stay in 2nd. If you turn the car off and then back on it will go back to normal operation. Is this electrical or a future transmission problem?

 

are you sure your not manually putting it into 2nd by pulling the shifter to the left? if not it could be a conductor plate or also called electrical plate, it gets very fine metal particles on the speed sensor for the trans and can do erratic things to the shifting. or maybe youve spilled liquid into the shifter recently?

 

It appears to be a speradic problem while the car is still in D. Thanks for the info.
