2000 c230 not shifting out of first (valve body kit)
Hi, I have a 2000 c230 and the transmission has been a little jerky, and now wont shift out of first gear. Mercedes repair shop told me it needed a new valve body kit modulator which controls the transmission fluid pressure for each shift. The tech told me around $600 for the modulator part, + a few hours labor to total around $800. Does this seem like an accurate cost? Thanks for your help! -Bryan

Approximately yes, If that's all that is wrong. See if you can get them to confirm for sure that it is the problem. That valve can be bench tested.
Quite often, for me, it takes them three tries to find the actual problem, and additional parts are needed. I used to complain about it, but the cars are so complicated now, its difficult to avoid. Also when I work on them myself, I usually find more than one thing wrong, so I've seen it for myself. But try to hold them to the estimate. Let's hopethe valve body is bad. Because if the valve body IS working, you may have smoked your ring cage inside. But for the first gear ring cage to be smoked, you would have had totow a boat, or power-braked the tranny during drag racing. Have you been doing that? : )
