Default 1992 500 SEL questions

My father just bought a 1992 500 SEL from a friend with 110,000 miles on the odometer and since I do all the maintenance and repairs on our families vehicles I thought I would join this forum for any questions That I might have in the future. We have never owned a Mercedes before so I am unfamiliar with everything about it. Were there any flaws that this model year had that I should watch for? My father uses Mobile one synthetic oil in all of our vehicles and he would like to change this car over to it right away. Would this be a good switch or one that may cause problems? Any information on this particular model would be greatly appreciated.

Using synthetic is probably one of the best things you can do for the engine. I run Mobil 1 synthetic in all of my Mercedes. Synthetic can sometimes cause a problem simply because it is thinner, meaning more fluid like, it sometimes reveals leaks that were non-visible with regular oil.
The W140's are one of the best Mercedes ever built, I would drive one over most new cars today. They are said to be costly to repair, which is probably true. Although, what car isn't costly to repair? I hope he enjoys his new s-class.

The old Volkswagon Beeltes or other car that is not computer controlled. Also cars that don't break often. Also I guess costly is in the eye of the beholder.

By no means am i saying that the W140 is a bad car I love them and when i can i want to get a 1999 S600. Casue i love the shape of the W140 its just right now i dont have the money or space to own and store every car i want. But yeah the W140 if it does break the price of repairs will knock u on ur a** just casue of the cost vs the value of the car.
