1986 190D temperature gauge needs fixin

The temperature gauge on my dashboard does not sense coolant temperature. Can someone help pinpoint what needs to be replaced to get the needle to sense the engine temperature? thanks!

I would suggest the Coolant Temperature Sensor... I believe its on the manifold near the thermostat.
