WINDOW TINTING
 

Hi guys. I just got my windows tinted on my 2004 E500. I was a bit hesitant on having people work on my car but these guys did it right. I was looking around for a reputable tint shop. I was calling around and found STEVES PROFESSIONAL GLASS TINTING. They are the only tint shop in the area with ceramic tint. Reason being if you use mettalic tint it will mess with you gps, am/fm recpetion and my xm radio. So this is the best stuff. I went for a nice look not to blacked out. Medium all around. The guys also had to install MOLESKIN on the rubers that goes up against the windows. If this is not installed it will casuse dirt and particles to rub against the rubbers and scratch the tint. It was really cool because all the guys did was put in the model of my car and the tint printed perfectly. The total damage was 349$ out the door. Steve or not... did you do your front window? I had to put 20% tint on my front window. The CLK'S front window is so big that when the sun is in your eyes...it's in your eyes. That ran me 75.00. It is a good investment and you can't even tell.

Living in GA. I have yet to have a problem. Lugnut you really can't notice the difference that much. As for the tint...it's one piece and works great.

i also did a tint on my s500. all the windows on the side doorsare tinted 30% and in the front and back its 20%. everything total was more then 100. it looks nice and clean. cops cant tell if i tinted the windows darker then the limit, so its all good.

Cops use a light meter to check if the tint is legal.

I don't know how accurate the info on this site is. According to the GA "tint law" link, any tint on the windshield and 20% tint on any other window is illegal.

Look at the penalty. You can be fined up to $1,000 and jailed for up to 12 months for violating the tint law! That's ludicrous.

Beware - An owner of an out-of-state car caught in GA with illegal window tint is subject to the same penalties under this law.

All you need is a letter from, your optometrist saying your light sensative. The cops can write all the tickets they want. The light meter cops carry can only be used for the side window. They cannot do back or front windows. To be honest Lugnut, you can't even notice the tint on the front. 20% is very light.

Actually, you would need a letter from an opthamologist or other MD attesting to your medical condition that prevents you from being unshielded from the sun. An optometrist isn't licensed to practice medicine and isn't qualified to write the letter. Also, it wouldn't be as easy to get as you make it sound. Not impossible, but not easy because most doctors wouldn't lie in writing. It would be like asking a doctor to give you a letter so you could get a handicapped parking permit.

Still, an exemption isn't guaranteed.

If a cop wanted to give you a hard time, they could tell if you have tint on the windshield. Anybody can tell by a close examination.

Hopefully, if you get caught the cop will just make you remove the tint while he watches. My next door neighbor when I lived in MD had to do that. Her side windows were too dark. The cop gave her a choice of removing it or getting a ticket.

More hopefully, cops will being doing something more important and just leave you alone.

Damn.... That's a pretty steep fine for friggin window tint. I would hate to find out what they'd charge you if you really did something wrong.

When I was going to school in Maryland...I had a friend that was given the same choice. Unfortunatly, he didn't have a razor and got the ticket. That was almost 15 years ago and he had to pay around a 150.00 fine.

I have been to almost all states in the US.

Never seen a state as backward, outdated, and poor as South Carolina and Georgia.

I have seen chain gangs there in both states....YES EVEN TODAY!

BTW...what do these state official mofos have to say about Suburbans that came tinted dark? No fine, no penalty because the drivers are rich and likely to be politically affiliated higher-up?

Factory tint is legal. I'm not sure where all these goofy laws came from in GA. GA citizens are predominately conservative. Even the liberals are conservative. Look at Zell Miller.

There other states besides SC and GA that use chain gangs. Arizona even uses female chain gangs.

Here's just one article from CNN.

I googled Arizona "chain gang" female and got a poopload of hits. Go see for yourself. It's actually just Maricopa County as far as I know, but that still counts as Arizona (not all counties in GA use chain gangs either). The sheriff there, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, is the guy who uses tents for his prisoners. They stay outside in the Arizona heat in tents and sleep on cots. No A/C, no fans, just the shade of the tents when they're not working on the chain gang. No TV, no radio, no nothing. I think he makes males prisoners wear pink underwear, too. To add insult to injury, he feeds the prisoners cold bologna sandwiches with water. He has one of those motel signs on a tall pole out front that says "Vacancy" and it's always turned on. The sheriff and his jail have been on TV a few times.

If I knew how to get them to come do my yardwork, I wouldn't hesitate.

It depends on where you get them. The ones that come on pizzas are awful. They stink like old fish and taste the same.

A jar of good quality anchovies or some fresh from the fish monger are pretty good.

You don't eat them alone, do you? I always cut them up and mix them with something.

I know this is reviving an old dead thread, but I have to ask why fly major is against chain gangs. I know I live in Alabama which also, quote backwards, but I am in favor of chain gangs. I am really a libertarian, which is kind of a combination conservative-liberal, and I am all in favor of chain gangs. I mean when I am driving down the highway here and I see a chain gang out cleaning the highway, I think to myself, wow that must suck, but you get what you deserve. I would much rather people who broke the law and hurt innocent people be forced to get out and do some manual labor in the 100 degree 90% humidity instead of staying inside all day. Someone has to do the work, why not them? Maybe while they are busy hating life, they will think about the fact there is no shortcut in life. Now I don't agree with some redneck jackass guard who abuses them while they work, but I would rather someone be a little harder on them than too easy. In my opinion once you break the law to that severity, you surrender many of your rights we all enjoy. Just my .0000002 cents. Keep the chain gangs, make all prisoners do manual labor. It's human nature to avoid pain and look for the easy way out, if we make prison easier than life outside of prison than we will have more repeat offenders. On the other hand if prison is miserable, but not excessively abusive, we will have fewer repeat offenders. Note I didn't say cure all repeat offenders, I said fewer. I don't care what anyone says about prison, I help treat many prisoners who are cancer patients here, and they will tell you that compared to the life they had prison is pretty good. Yes, I am a financial planner like my profile says, but my father (by the way I have two dads, like the old tv show, one a mechanic and one a doctor, just in case you have read other threads where I have referenced my mechanic dad) is a cancer doc here and he treats all of the prisoners in Alabama who have cancer, and I have helped him on several occassions. Sadly, my main function is to help keep them in line. They only send two guards for 30 prisoners to the clinic. So I have had many candid conversations wtih these people. Vivan Las Chain Gangs.
