Default Stuck Spin-off Fuel filter

I did a diesel purge (my first) this weekend and went to change the fuel filters on the car. I could not get the spin-off one off. I did not have a filter wrench that apparently fit it and I actually broke my strap wrench in trying to get it off. Any advice on getting it off? Can anyone provide me with the filter wrench size for an 1978-1981 300D fuel filter?

Thanks -

BTW - My diesel is much quieter since the purge. Real nice.

I believe you want to remove the bolt on the top of the filter housing. That should let the filter drop from below the housing. -ED

Ha - There's a bolt there? Well, I may have busted my @$$ for nothing. I will check that out. Thanks Ed.

That was the trick. For whatever reason, I did not notice it. I have not changed it since I have owned it. The car is running awesome! Thanks Ed.

The term "spin off/on filter is as you know is inaccurate!

I just completed my first one as well, but haven't noticed a change. Maybe it has something to do with that engine mount I broke last night
