Om617 Jeep Project
Hello,
I am in the process of installing an OM617 into a 1985 Jeep Cherokee. I am debating whether or not to use the stock Benz transmission. I would like to keep the four wheel drive but I am not sure how to adapt the torque converter to the Benz flywheel. The transmission is a Chrysler A904 torqueflite that bolts right to the transfer case. The bellhousing pattern is for the 2.8 GM V6, so the bellhousing to engine adapter would be fairly easy to fab. Is the OM617 externally balanced? If so, maybe a custom torque converter with the Benz mounting pads would be easier? I have seen other Om617 swaps, but they used manual transmissions.
Regards,
John
