Default No brakes! 83 300SD

ok, here's my long, sad story. A few weeks ago I broke one of the small vacuum lines that goes over the top of the valve cover while I was changing the oil. oops. So I taped off both ends and the car ran fine. I figured that whatever that line controlled, it must not have worked anyway. A few days ago as I backed down the driveway the brake pedal got hard and I had just a very little braking action. I shut the car off and guess what, it didn't - so I hit the fuel stop on the engine and there she sits. What happened?? The car runs fine, vacuum locks all work, A/C controls work. I am stumped. I suscribe to ALLDATA (car repair site) but can find no correlation between no brakes and the the fuel not shutting down. Obviously vacuum but what, where, how? I don't even know where to beging checking! Can anyone help??

Looks like your tape job went bad and the vacuum system no longer can keep up with the leak you created. The engine shutoff, door locks and brake booster all run off that vacuum system. Get some MB hard vacuum line and replace that line - or use some rubber vacuum hose and splice it. Should put you back on the road.
