Exclamation Installation of NEW OEM car mats....HELP

Am updating/re-doing a 1982 240D sedan....purchased new set of floor mats from a dealer online on eBay at a great price....mats came with plastic clips to SECURE mats to car floor front and back.....am UNABLE to ascertain WHERE these clips go or are applied in order to secure the mats....asked dealer who sold them but he was uncertain as the car is 30+ years old....seemed to think that a cable or wire runs front to back to the metal floor to which clips are attached but he is not certain.....my mechanic thinks the clips are to be attached to an underlying carpet in this car but he is not certain....WHO IS RIGHT?

And what would you suggest I do to INSTALL these mats properly in this car so that they remain in place and do not slide.....Thanks!

If you cannot figure out where the clips go, you can always use 3M double sided tape on the underside of the mats to keep them in place. It can be found in many of the parts stores, is fairly inexpensive, and can be removed if need be with little or now problems.

I am confused by what You said. On My 84 300D on the Divers Side there is 2 Floor mats.

The Bottom one has thick insulation Pads glued to it and there is 2 snaps on the rear end that match Snaps under the Seat on the Floor.

The other Mat that goes on top of that has a Plastic or Vinyl Shield where your Heal would go when you use the Accelerator Pedal. It has no Metal clips.

If it did have Metal Clips I am guessing they would hook onto the bottom Mat.

I am making a guess that you do not have the Bottom Mat.

Also stuff sold on eBay may or may not be genuine Mercedes Parts.

Will these strips work to secure bottom of top mats to metal flooring of car? Or is the other person correct in stating that there are TWO sets of carpet in these cars...a bottom set and a top set? Thanks.

If you are referring to the double sided 3M tape, if the metal is clean, and the bottom of the top mat has some sort of gripping surface, the tape will work. It can be purchased in different widths, and is durable enough to be used on the exterior of the car when mounting emblems etc.. Nice part about it is that its cheap, can be removed easily , and if it doesn't do the job no big deal.
