How to spot bad Fuses?
Hi,
My blinkers went out, along with windows and gas gauge. Before I do anything more (If I can). I want to check my fuses. My car is an 83 diesel w123. On one of the fuses I noticed that the steel/metal piece running from top to bottom on one side, It was bent up. How can I tell if the other fuses need replacing. Thanks LJ |
Hi there.
I think the first investment (small) should be a voltmeter, practical they are. Like I have posted in a previous thread,a small hair line crack is enough to not make contact. Please be sure to replace your defectives fuses with a porcelain type fuse. Cheers |

Get the Voltmeter any way. If you are in the USA Harbor Freight sells Digital Volt/Ohm Meters (Multimeters) for less than $5.
Look at your the Fuse Chart if you have one in the lid of the Fuse Box. If it was me I would pull them and check the tips and were they make contact. The one pictured below looked good but when I pulled it look at the suprise I found. Get rid of any Plastic Bodied Fuses and replace them with Ceramic Bodied Fuses. Also, ones with Copper or Brass strips corrode less than the White Metal ones do. |
