Default Fan Clutch question about 1985 300d

My 1985 300d needs a fan clutch. I have been looking at many parts places and several of them have a note about the engine fit. Some clutches say they fit engines in the 036024 number range and others fit engines in the 036025 number range. My first question is where do you find the engine serial number? Some parts places do not have any such statement. Autozone for example has a clutch with limited lifetime warranty but only one is listed. I have primarily been looking at fan clutches made by Behr. Does anyone suggest a different brand? Also, there is some difference in price for the clutches that fit the different engines. Thanks for your help.

By later one, do you mean 036025?
