brakes sinking to the floor!!
aloha there!
Lately, I have noticed my brakes sink all the way to the floor and come back up (offer some resistance, which is normal) when I pump them a few times.
Also, when I am driving slow, 2 wheels are squeaking.
Anyone have any clues to what's up here?
Also, I cannot seem to find a Haynes manual for my year and model.
1981 300 SD. Is haynes the best model for those who are not professional mechanics but have some basic know how?
Glad to have found this forum! I have been worried.
many thanks!
Demi

RE: brakes sinking to the floor!!
Skip Haynes. For $20 you can buy the factory manual on DVD from the MBZ Classic Center. You could have air in your brake lines/master cylinder, it could be leaking, or you could have a vacuum problem. It's kind of hard to diagnose without all the information. Fluid level? Leaks? Warped rotors causing heat fade? There are lots of potential problems here. My suggestion for you would be to start by examining your master cylinder for fluid level/leaks and then proceed to each individual wheel caliper and bleeding them all. After that you'll either find the problem during your inspection or you'll fix it by bleeding out the entire system.

I see, where can I find this manual again? Please post a link if you can.
In the past when I owned and worked on a 450 SEL, having the haynes manual in front of my wheile I replaced the brake pads was a real plus. Do you find a DVD based manual just as effective, if you cannot bring your computer next to your garage area?
thanks Cycleboy!
