Before I take apart the dash

Presently my 190D will not turn off with the key. Everything that I've read and been told says its a vaccum issue. I checked the vaccum up to the fire wall and the vaccum is about 22. I'm guessing the next step is to take apart the dashboard to get at the ignition. One thing I did notice is a little oil leak around the ignition. The leak, small as it is, is coming from where the two halfs of the ignition meet. Could this be my problem?

I checked the lines all the way to the fire wall and their was good vaccum. The leak has to be between the firewall and the ignition.

Ditto, just remove the panel, it uses 3 screws. You will hate life if you remove the dash becauseit will take at least 2 hours and involve like a thousand wires on the back of that instrument panel. Trust me! :D

RE: Before I take apart the dash

I have the panel removed but can't really get to the vaccum tubes. Its a mess up there. Is the ignition lock mounted to the steering wheel for stability or is there some function going on between them. If I could just get the ignition lock free from the steering wheel I could work on it. This is a pain.
