Air intake
Hello everyone,
What an amazing site this is. This is our first MB and I was blown away when I found this forum.
We just took delivery of a 1979 300SD (bio/veggie conversion) and it arrived without an air filter or housing. When I asked if it was left off by mistake, I was told that this model had an issue with the intake being a "poor design and rattling" and that the filter was "not needed unless you drive on gravel roads". I know a Mercedes is an amazing vehicle, but this just doesn't seem right. General particulate matter would end up inside the engine, which I have a hard time believing would not cause serious problems down the road.
Is there anyone out there who can clear this up? Has anyone heard of this year & model having a "misengineered" air filter or anything like that?
I appreciate your help,
imcgarvie
