Default '79 300SD Engine Removal

I own a '79 300SD that has a seized motor. I bought a diesel from a '82 300SD for a motor swap. I plan on rebuilding the seized motor later on. My question is with the removal of the motor from the '79. I'd like to keep the transmission in the car but I'm unable to get at all the bolts to the torque converter because I can't turn the motor over. Can I just remove the bell house bolts and slide the torque converter with the engine or will I hurt something so I should just take the transmission with it? Thanks for any advice/info!!

Thanks for the reply. It looks like I'm forced into doing it that way. I hope to get at it this Spring. The car is in very good condition and is in storage for the time being.
