Default 77' 300D - Engine Hard to Crank over, Wont Start

So I just bought a 1977 Mercedes 300D that isnt running. Apperently it overheated and now the engine has troubble cranking over and wont start. First off, is there any way to fix this out side of replacing the motor, and if I do have to replace the motor how dificult is it? I've rebuilt and swaped motors before, but never on a Mercedes like this.

Thanks in advance for you help
James

Thanks for the info, I'll check that. On that note, it is so hard to crank over the start overheats and starts dieing out, so you may be dead on.

I'll check it and get back

thanks
James
