Default 300d Turbo - Can i replace 84 air cleaner for improved 85 setup

Hello , I am new to mercedes . Already I am true believer in W123 build quality . My car is a 1984 300d turbo with 313,000 , She runs great except for rough idle , I know at least one motor mount is toast , because the car rocks when i turn it off , also i can physicaly move the motor to the right with little effort. I hope replacing the motor mounts will cure this. Upon looking at the Rack Damper Screw , and comparing it to the ones at the wrecking yard , mine has better spring tension . Is the new and improved shorter Rack Damper Screw any better ? Sorry to get off topic !! My question is ...... The 1985 300d turbo air cleaner set up looks to be superior to the 1984 , The turbo has to be happier without the bulky air cleaner on top of it ( for cooling purposes). Can i change it out for the 1985 setup ? And if so , hopefully I dont have to change the exhaust . The turbo appears to sit higher on the 1985 . P.S Great forum , Very helpful. I appriate any help . One small problem at a time , next on the list , tach , cruise control , A/C . I Have some reading to do !!!

Thank you for your knowledgeable answer .I will buy the 1985 complete setup for $20 and see if it can be installed fairly easily. As for the rare and expensive filter ... possibly a K&N or stock one @ $30-40 bucks ( Keep an extra one in the trunk ) once or twice a year wouldn't be bad for the better airflow protection & it will allow the turbo to run a few degrees cooler , for the simple fact that the old bulky one is no longer sitting on top of it . Plus the turbo looks cool expossed !!! Once agan thank You Forced Induction .... These forums would not be the same without people like you who take their time to help and pass along experience !!!! Ok well i answered my own question from another post . The 1985 ( Ca model ) air cleaner sits in front of the right headlight , as for mine 1984, it sits on the turbo . If they are both ca cars is it stil possible to make the swap ? Or is it even worth the hassle ? Just thought the air cleaner on the 1985 model was better cause it exposses the turbo , giving it more air to keep it as cool as possible.
