270CDI Power Loss
'EL, Power Control EPC visit workshop'
The above message displays after the engine shuts down on the road and after a high power demand. The engine can be restarted (whilst in motion) but the accl. pedal will not respond until road speed drops below 30 mph. The vehicle will operate ok with gentle driving up to 70 mph on level roads.
Changing the engine mounted fuel fillter cured the problem, the restictive filter had been fitted from new & run for 50k miles, (15k more than recomended)
The ECU must sense overlarge fuel injector pulse widths (or current flow) to compensate for low fuel flow/pressures.
During investigation the EGR valve & adjacent tract was found to be clogged with soft soot to within a 10mm hole - it's difficult to avoid loose deposits falling into the cyl. tracts so the ensuing start up will result in rough running for 1 or 2 mins but will clear.
