Default 1987 300D turbo

Just purchased the above. There are some issues which I hope this 'brain trust' can help me with. Has a very load knock at front top of engine. Tach not working, nor cruise control and where is the cruise unit? Also, no real power fwelt from the turbo. My 82 300D power comes on like a rocket compared to this. And finally, how hard is it to repair/replace speedometer/odometer which is very sluggish.
All responses are appreciated.

It may be a dirty injector that needs cleaned or replaced. Worse case scenario is that it's a bad cylinder head. I've noticed the same on mine so it must be a diesel thing

Same problem. No RPM, Cruise Control and the AC compressor doesn't seem to kick on it's own. If I wire directly to the compressor it engages so the problem is somewhere else. I found a blown overvoltage fuse, replaced it and the idle ran better but still no go on the other things. Anyone know where the crank sensor is? any help would be appreciated. there is no RPM amplifier on this model. It is not the same as older models. Please email me or post on here. Thanks

Still on this thread? Power issue is a function of fuel flow. Check filters and screen in the tank and make sure fuel is coming through the line upstream of the primary filter. The rubber fuel line may be collapsing. Cruise control issues. The cruise actuator is behind the pump on the engine. The cruise amplifier behind the knee pad drivers side. The cruise switch is on the steering column. The cruise control can be disconnected by the switch, by stepping on the brakes or turning off the ignition switch. 80% of electronic problems are caused by a faulty ground connection.
