1980 240d deal?
Hello, I am a new member to the forum, but have been a reader for a while now. I have been in search of a w123 240d or 300d and have managed to stumble across a 1980 240d. First, I am concerned about the lack of power that I keep reading about. I'm no speed demon, but while I'm currently in rolling upstate SC, home is in the mountains of VA and I worry about accidentally being run over by my brother in his duramax. What speeds should I be able to maintain while climbing? The car has the 4spd manual.
The vehicle itself was purchased in sunny florida for a eighteen year old who complained his way into a firebird, now he complains about fuel mileage. The odometer does not work, and the history is relatively unkown. I have recieved some pictures which are hartening, looks in good condition. One other concern is that they claim that it is "cold natured" starts rough first time then smooths out and then is easy to start. Is this the glow-plugs? Is there any way to check? They're asking $1000, and I think I can talk them down a bit. Is it worth it (I'm looking for a dependable daily driver)? What things should I be looking for when I test drive this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
