190D - should I invest in repairs?
I bought a 190d with 250k miles that I believe was well maintained...originally wanted a 300d but really liked this car because was really clean one owner so took the plunge...but now sounds like a valve is bad and is really making a lot of clatter...also think rear diff is going out since has pretty loud whine...
So my question is should I hang in here with this car and invest in more repairs? And how costly would these repairs be approximately?
Surprised how much I like this car but have been told 190 d not as durable as the 300d's and should trade this car if needs a bunch of work..
Needs some perspective please...thanks.

W201 diesel and W124 diesel have many similar components and design features, hence, durability is similar. Many parts are interchangeable.
I find that return on investment for repairs is only reasonable if you "do it yourself" with surplus or scrap parts. I bought a second identical vehicle for $500 as a parts car. Otherwise, get a better newer car with the $6-10K you would spend at the dealer on repairs during the next 5 years.

I bought a 190D also knowing it needed alot of work, right now I have the motor out and torn apart. I cant wait to get it back together and back on the road, they are good cars. It depends on how bad you like the car and if you can do the work your self, if you have someone else do the work it will be expensive.
