Hello:

Has anyone done any work on integrating their iPod into the sound system?

You'll need to purchase the Aux Input Harness, Part No. A 203 540 61 07.

See attached images for installation process.

Great. Thanks.

I certainly hope no one expects me to be able to install it though. :-)

An iPod can be hooked up to the Auxiliary input if:

1) the car comes with a factory fitted comand unit, or
2) a comand has been retrofitted afterwards as well as an additional AUX input.

I don't think it is possible to connect the AUX input to any head unit one has in his/her dash - the Aux is meant as some sort of replacement for the fact that the comand doesn't have a tape player. So you can use it to hook up an external audio device.

Hi guys

I have just bought an ipod and have tried linking it to the aux input in the glove box (I found mine at the front on the left side of the glove box). Although it does seem to work, the sound is very, very low (even with it turned up to full on the ipod) and you need to turn the stereo up very loud to hear it. This is ok but when you change back to CD or radio without remembering to turn the volume back down, you nearly blow your ear drums?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I have the same system in my 02 CLK320 and don't have this problem. Obviously, as you said, you need to make sure the local volume on your iPod is up full. Remember, the mini-stereo output is an analog signal subject to local volume control.

Secondly, when the Aux input is selected through the COMAND interface, you may need to adjust the Sound settings manually. When you're listening to AM/FM/CD, the Sound settings are applied to all modes, but not the Aux input. You need to go to Sound and do its own settings. I use the canned setting (Other Options) for Pop music and that seems to increase the sound strength and quality significantly.

buy the fm transmitter for the ipod. you can tune it to a fm station that is not in use in your area and play it through your radio. sounds great!

I am having the same problem with my dealer installed iPod integration kit in my 06 Mercedes CLK. The sound is not as good as a CD or FM radio and I can't crank the music up nearly as loud as I can with a CD. I have a rag top so I need the extra volume boost. When I switch from the iPod to the CD I have to remember to turn the volume down or it’s too loud when the switch occurs. I have the volume up all the way on my iPod and the EQ is set to POP per the Mercedes iPod manual.

Knowing that the dealership is unknowledgeable about the iPod connection, I have asked two car audio guys why this is happening and one said it should not be that way and I should call Mercedes. No luck. The other said since MP3 files are compacted much greater than CD files, it will always be softer. I found that to be untrue.

I have asked each car audio guy if there is such a thing as a booster but both said no.

Has anyone found a fix for this?

Please help. I have an 02 C240 with stock non-Bose sound Tape and CD-Changer. I do have the Command center in the dash that controls some stereo options but I've never seen an option for an AUX-in (maybe because I don't have the AUS-in wire harness installed yet). I do see the hole in my glove box where I would install the AUX-in wire harness. Is the wire harness all that I need to install an AUX-in?
