Default E class W210 ALPINE hi-fi upgrade

I have an Alpine unit CDA 9831R and associated 6-disc changer which I am considering fitting to my car.

It is not essential to me that I have the display coming through on the dash (as per the Audio 10 fitted) to show that I am on a certain radio station or CD track.

But can this be retained without costing a fortune.

I may leave the install in the car when I decide to sell it so it may be a good idea to retain this??

Any advice on how to fit it. I have fitted hi-fis to many of my own cars over the years but what do I need to obtain to retain the steering controls, etc.

I assume the head unit will connect straight to the MB cables that attach to the Audio 10??

Would I need a mod for connecting to the steering wheel - I hear that many Mercs use Alpine derived units so would the steering controls plug into the rear?

Any help or links would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
