I have read quite a lot of threads about the air flow meter (MAF) causing problems with loss of power. these symptoms are exactly what i have on my W202 C200 2000 model. Over a period of a few months I noticed a gradual loss of power when accelerating to the point that when i put my foot down....nothing happens. I also noticed that when the car struggles to have enough revs to change up gear I could rectify this problem by stopping, turning the engine off and restarting. Sometimes I can go for an hour with no problem other times its every 5 minutes. It sounds very much like the MAF to me but i also hear that disconnecting the MAF should make the car run better. I have disconnected that MAF but the issue is about the same with or without it disconnected.
I want to order a new MAF but am reluctant to fork out £150 (Bosch) if it may not be the MAF.
Can anyone confirm my symptons are indeed the MAF and nothing else?

Have you tried a MAF sensor cleaner? I believe CRC makes one. You must use a cleaner specifically designed for a Mass Air Flow sensor.

I am fairly certain that on your, you can pull the MAF sensor out of the aligner. You'll need a special tool to get the two screws out. I believe it is called "Torx Plus" - it has a security button and has only five star points. Then you can clean the wire and wire area.

I also believe the insert alone is available at autohousaz.com (I hope I got that right). It's cheaper than buying the whole thing.

 

Thanks Waybomb, It sounds like you DO think the MAF is faulty. It did think of cleaning it but would need to get hold of the correct Torx driver, anyway I have actually found the correct Bosch part on ebay for £30 today so will see if that cures the problem.

 

The car is running like new.!! £30 well spent !!

 

I know this sounds like a stupid question (exposing my noobness), but was the MAS part you got on ebay new or used?

Just wanted to ask if you purchased a Bosch MAF or a third party one?

 

cylinder no 3 of my C200k is misfiring on less than 3000rpm,I have interchanged spark plugs and coils but it is still misfiring.I have also put injector cleaning agent in my petrol tank which has slightly reduced the misfire,but the KOMPRESSOR acceleration is still not available.Is my MAF giving this problem?diagnostic check is also showing MAF error,any suggestions what I should do to be sure of the problem and not waste money on replacing ok parts.
