Default Should I purchase an extended warranty 1998 E320

I have a 1998 E320 with 87,000 miles that I just purchased through a franchise dealer. I was offered an extended service contract 3 yr/36k miles w/no deductable. The warranty covers covers engine, transmission, electrical, steering and over 800 components for $2700.My question...is it worth paying extra money for this warranty or am I better off just saving my money and waiting for something to possibly happen? I don't plan on driving this car everyday, however I am planning on long trips once it is in use.

I will give you my opionion, because I was faced with a similar situation. I recently purchased a 2003 E320 with 48K. I was offered a no-ded, 48K mile-4 yr, bumper to bumper warranty for around the same price (roughly $2600). I took it. Here's why.......Even if I saved all that $$$$$ specifically for repairs, and three years from now I had an expense that was even half ($1300), it would seem extremely painful to cough up that money. Also, having the warranty, for me, means peace of mind. I don't have to worry about any noise, rattle, or any other problem. To me, the peace of mind is worth the whole thing. If a new car dealer offered to take off $2500 in exchange for no warranty would you do it? I wouldn't.

Anyway.... that is just my opinion.

P.S. I have recently discovered a little "buck" in my transmission. Well..... It may be a hassle to bring it in, but I am not in the least bit concerned about the financial hassle.

Good luck...... and I, too, would like to hear other opinions.

You spending almost 3grand for a warranty on a car that is only worth $8000 does not seem like a good deal. However if it brings you peace of mind, see if your auto insurance co. has a plan or even non dealer warranty plans are less money.
If this car has had all the proper work done, recalls, tsb's and such it should provide you with years of good service.Find a good indie shop to do the regular maintanence or learn to do it yourself.Parts are cheap online at places like autohausaz.com and diy's on benzworld.org and mercedesshop.com
enjoy

I am very close to purchasing a 2001 E430 Sport with 54K miles on it. I am getting a pretty good deal on it and so thought I would check the cost of purchasing an extended warranty. A few of you responded with quotes you had received. Can you all please give me the name of the dealership that qouted you?...Thanks in advance.
