2009 GLK 320CDI - totally rotten brake lines, fluid poured out on the garage floor
Hello MB users,
I wasn't sure where to put this thread because it is both - a technical and safety issue that may concern more than just one model which, in my case, is the GLK 320 CDI. Namely, one day I came to my garage to see that all the brake fluid poured out of my car. It turned out that the brake lines corroded to such an extent there were few centimeters big wholes in both of them. It was a really lucky coincidence that it happened while the car was stationary - otherwise, it could have ended terribly wrong, say, somewhere on the zebra crossing in a congested city centre.
Anyhows, I'm really disappointed with MB's reaction to the problem, they weren't moved at all. In short, their deal for me was - more less - something like this -you give us 1200$ [ labour, parts, inspection] and we participate in parts costs [about a 100$]. Now, I do understand the servicing costs and material wear. My car is from 2009, done about 100k miles. I've already replaced all the shocks, some other suspension parts, the gearbox needed some repairs, brake discs, etc. I change the oil rather often - every 10k miles therefore I think, I look after the car rather well. Still, it's preposterous that these brake lines are made from such a low quality material. Shame on you MB.
Forum, do check your cars because this is one car malfunction you don't want to miss.
