Default Thoughts on Battery relocation to boot

Hello:
I've been thinking of doing this for my 123: Get a nice battery box (might be hard to find one to fit the Group 93 though!) vent it to the outside somehow, weld a tray in the off-side rear of the boot and run some 4 gauge welding cable to the alternator and the rest of the ancillaries.

The advantage is, I'm hoping, for a more balanced car with more weight to the rears.

Do-able? Thoughts please, thanks.

Default Battery Relocation

I did it and I was very happy with the mod. You can fit it on the right side of the trunk in the cargo space pocket. (The "pockets" on the right and left hand side.) No need to lose your spare tire, although that is certainly an option. The only change I would do now is Anderson connectors all around. Actually, I love the Anderson Connector and I am swapping all my connections to these.

Thanks guys. That was enlightening. FI, what's that oblong thing that seems to be on the firewall? Is that the "Anderson Connector" that Greazzer is talking about? Greazzer, your applicaiton in the right cargo pocket seems like a really good place to put it.

Did you guys make your own cables? What gauge did you use?

I really dont remember the gauge (if you need it, I have a little scrap left over to measure). I do remember that one needs at least 20 feet. I also know that I am going with a thicker wire next time. What started out as a "simple" mod, turned into one R&D issue after another, however, I really liked the outcome. I got a car now that I am forced to scrap because of rust and rot, but once I find a donor, I am relocating the battery so I will post those results.
