I am thinking of buying a local 85 560 SEC with 140K miles. It comes with all service records and is in excellent condition. I am familiar with old BMWsand are not afraid to get my hands dirty when it comes to minor fixes. One of my 745 have over 220K miles and still runs like my 140K miles745. Is the 560SEC a pretty reliable car at 140K or will it be a money pit as miles add up?

Thanks.

The 560 sec's go forever! don't worry about the mileage-if maintained correctly.

Just my opinion; Save money and get the better looking and more practical sedan.

The 560SEC was MB's flagship car when produced. That is not to say that they are bullit -proof. The biggest thing IMHO is to make sure that all major services have been done. Especially the timing chain and tensioners. I have a '91 560 SEC with 132k on it.

The point of getting a SEC is because it's a Coupe...

Anyway, although I don't have an SEC, I drive an S500 Coupe.
I saw one SEC the other day, it's really nice.
And the V8 engine is a real big power house.
Good luck!

I don't really like coupes. So unpractical, who wants to climb over the front seats to get into the rear seats which have hardly any legroom. And the SECs have awful oversized door handles which really stand out. I cannot understand why people actually spend more money on them.

but he was asking about buying a 560SEC.
i don't like 2 doors also.

The Mercedes 560SEC which were produced from 1986 to 1989 were a stunning example of power refined into a luxury car.
High performance was delivered through the aluminum 5.6 liter engine, and other features included 4 wheel independent suspension, 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes, and much more.
The Mercedes Benz 560SEC was a classic the second it hit the showroom floor. The aluminum hood, great looking grill, beautiful lines, and awesome performance were show stoppers.

The last year for 560SEC was 1991 - I had one.

There are AMG mods out there if you can find them.
